Hearts & Minds, Online

Treating mental illnesses does not depend on medication or talk therapy alone: it's a matter of mind and body, especially the heart.

For that reason, NAMI is making its "Hearts & Minds" program available for the first time, free of charge, through an online video and workbook. Hearts & Minds promotes a whole body approach to living with a mental illness that focuses on eating right, exercising, and quitting smoking. Read more...


Join the Club

From the opening of Fountain House in New York City in 1948, the Clubhouse model of recovery has caught on around the world. Emphasizing that recovery from serious mental illness must involve the whole person in a vital and culturally sensitive community, there are 225 Clubhouses in North America today.

Fighting Stigma on Campus

While attending college, Susie Piasecki discovered she had a mental illness when she had her first manic episode. After taking a break from classes and seeking treatment, she returned to school and told her classmates about her personal experience with mental illness.

Weekly Podcast Explores Depression

On April 26, a new weekly Internet audio-cast titled, "The Down & Up Show", premiered. Each weekly episode features top-level guests discussing the latest medical research, current policy issues, news and events, and personal perspectives from people who have faced and overcome depression.

Episodes to date have featured discussions about depression myths, depression on campus and in the military, and depression within families. New episodes, plus an audio archive, are available at DepressionIsReal.org and the iTunes store.
