Families on the Brink - Families on the Brink: The Impact of Ignoring Children with Serious Mental Illness was commissioned by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) to direct attention to the needs of families of children and adolescents with serious mental illnesses. NAMI, the nation's largest organization for families facing serious mental illness, commissioned and helped conduct a national survey of families with children who have such a brain disorder. The results of this survey of families with youngsters with disabling mental disorders show without question the barriers these families face just to obtain basic and necessary medical treatment. As the title rightly states, so many of these families are on the brink of survival.
