Schizophrenia

November 29, 2007

The Washington Post reports that recent studies indicate a possible relationship between elevated risk of schizophrenia and maternal infections during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy.

Though the research is still considered preliminary, it suggests that that the origins of diseases such as schizophrenia might start as early as in the womb. The newest studies also propose that one cause may be pregnant mothers’ immune reactions to the flu.
