Georgia Graduates First CIT Officers

From the first Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) in Memphis, Tennessee to CIT programs all across the country law enforcement is starting to see the value in having officers trained to handle individuals with mental illness.  Georgia is no different in this effort and has just graduated its first class of CIT officers.  The graduating class was the first of 3,000 officers statewide that will be trained as CIT officers.  The recently graduating class was 60 strong and 20 people also received advanced "train the trainer" certification to help bring the program back to their departments.

Many organizations in the state helped make this a reality including NAMI Georgia, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia Police and Sheriff's Associations, Georgia Department of Human Resources and the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.

View a flyer with additional information about the program in Georgia and a picture of the recent graduates.  NAMI congratulates all the CIT programs across the country and is hopeful that more programs will start soon.
