ARLINGTON, VA — Daniel H. Gillison Jr., CEO of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), has been named to the 25th annual edition of The NonProfit Times’ (NPT) Power & Influence Top 50 list and will be honored next month at a gala at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

In recognizing Gillison, The NPT stated: “The pandemic and social justice issues have many Americans on edge at a time when mental health remains underfunded and underrepresented. Gillison spearheaded the creation of the CEO Alliance for Mental Health, which has collaborated to identify and amplify their priorities, for example getting word out on the new 9-8-8 crisis line.”

Gillison is part of what The NPT describes as “arguably the most diverse list of honorees” in its history, joining the heads of other nonprofits like AARP, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, CARE USA, the Ford Foundation, Habitat for Humanity Intl., United Way Worldwide, and YMCA of the USA, as well as philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.

“I’m honored and humbled to be included among such a distinguished and dynamic group of nonprofit leaders,” Gillison said. “But NAMI is a team, and an alliance of 49 state organizations and more than 600 affiliates across the country. This honor recognizes their hard work on behalf of those with mental illnesses and their loved ones — work that has built NAMI’s reputation as the nation’s leader in mental health advocacy and support.”

The NPT called the honorees “initiators, innovators and leaders,” all of whom are working day-in, day-out as an executive. The Top 50 were selected from a group of about 300 nominees, recognizing their work over the past year.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.
