This year during Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), from Oct. 2–8, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is sharing real-life stories from people with mental illness focused on “What I Wish I Had Known.”
Storytelling is a compelling way to break through the stigma that makes it so difficult for many to come forward and get help. Experiences sends the message that there is a community of people who care and understand what you’re going through.
NAMI HelpLine is available M-F, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. ET. Call 800-950-6264,
text “helpline” to 62640, or chat online. In a crisis, call or text 988 (24/7).
