Valerie Hunter challenges our staff to think and perform in ways that spark breakthrough conversations, new perspectives and meaningful learning and growth. The connecting thread throughout Valerie’s rich background is her commitment to helping individuals, families, teams and organizations function well.

Prior to joining NAMI in 2007, Valerie was the deputy director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's National Program Office, Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse. She served in numerous other leadership roles, including director of training and workforce development for one of Oregon’s largest mental health and addictions treatment centers and deputy mental health director in Humboldt County, Calif.

What do you wish more people knew about NAMI?

At NAMI, people frequently have different ideas about “THE HOW” but everyone agrees with “THE WHY.”
