Senior Project Specialist
Internal Strategy and Support
Shelley Miller is devoted to helping NAMI’s internal teams work effectively, efficiently and collaboratively to achieve NAMI’s mission. Shelley came to NAMI with a passion for improving nonprofit operations on a national level in order to maximize operations on a local level. She supports a wide range of cross-team initiatives and is NAMI’s “go-to” webinar producer.
Shelley was a former research assistant at George Mason’s Center for Nonprofit Excellence. She holds a master’s in public administration from George Mason University where she specialized in nonprofit management, and a B.A. in business management from Guilford College.
What piece of your work at NAMI are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of supporting the nationwide launch of NAMI Homefront online classes. Based on the traditional in-person program for families, caregivers and friends of military service members and veterans with mental health conditions, the online classes remove barriers of accessibility and stigma-related fears.
What’s something about you that would surprise others?
Little known fact: I completed my undergraduate degree several years early, and then I put my degree in business management to good use, by running a horseback riding academy! I’ll always be an equestrian at heart, and I credit my passion for mission-driven work to my experience as a riding instructor.
