Poll of Public Perspectives on Mental Health Policy Priorities (2023)
A NAMI-Ipsos poll found that a bipartisan majority of Americans agree their elected officials need to do more to improve mental health care in the U.S. The findings show strong public interest in Congress taking decisive action to improve the nation’s ongoing mental health crisis.

Poll of Public Perspectives on 988 & Crisis Response (2023)
A NAMI-Ipsos poll conducted in Summer 2023 found that most Americans are not familiar with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Additionally, the poll found that there’s strong bipartisan support for policy solutions and funding to expand the capacity of 988 call centers and the availability of related crisis services – even when people are not personally familiar with 988 or know anyone who has contacted the 988 Lifeline.

Mental Health and Elections (2022)
A poll conducted by Ipsos on behalf of NAMI found that voters are more likely to support candidates who prioritize mental health policies, like quality mental health care and removing barriers to care.

Poll of Teen Mental Health from Teens Themselves (2022)
A poll conducted by Ipsos on behalf of NAMI finds that most teens are comfortable talking about mental health, but often don’t start the conversation. They also want schools to play a big role in their mental health, and they trust the information they get there, but feel like schools are not doing enough.

Public Opinion on 988 and Crisis Response (2022)
A poll conducted by Ipsos on behalf of NAMI found people were largely unaware of 988 ahead if its nationwide availability, but overwhelmingly favor policies to help build a robust mental health crisis response system that supports people who contact the new number.

A poll conducted by Ipsos on behalf of NAMI found U.S. adults overwhelmingly support investment and policies to overhaul our national response to mental health crises.

Parent Perspectives Survey on Kids’ Mental Health Amid COVID-19 (2021)
A poll conducted by Ipsos on behalf of NAMI finds that an overwhelming number of parents support mental health education in schools and “mental health days” for their children.

Mood Disorder Survey (2021)
The cost of treatment and access to quality, affordable care, along with stigma, are major barriers to Americans seeking help for mood disorders, according to a national survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of NAMI.

Digital Technology Use Among Individuals with Schizophrenia (2016)
To better understand the role of technology and to help inform our advocacy efforts as well as the larger research focus on adults with schizophrenia, NAMI commissioned Harris Poll (f/k/a Harris Interactive) to conduct research designed to explore the role technology plays in their lives.

College Students Speak (2012)
NAMI conducted a national survey of college students living with mental health conditions to discover whether schools are meeting their needs and what improvements are needed to support their academic experience. 

Characterizing the Relationship Between Individuals with Mental Conditions and Community Pharmacists (2012)
Approximately 75 percent of individuals living with mental illness and their caregivers seldom or never receive safety or effectiveness monitoring assistance from community pharmacists according to a survey conducted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in conjunction with the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists Foundation (CPNPF).

First Episode of Psychosis (2011)
The results of NAMI's online survey of individuals who have experienced psychosis firsthand or directly witnessed the experience of a family member or friend.

The Family Experience with Primary Care Physicians and Staff (2011)
Parents and caregivers answered a variety of questions related to their experiences discussing mental health concerns about their child with primary care physicians and staff and identified what helped them the most.

Depression Survey (2009)
This survey provides a baseline of the general public’s perceptions of depression and captures the experiences of people living with depression along with the experiences of their caregivers.

Schizophrenia: Public Attitudes, Personal Needs (2008)
This report represents NAMI's analysis and recommendations of a survey conducted by Harris Interactive among the general adult public, people living with schizophrenia, and caregivers. NAMI commissioned the survey in order to raise a national dialogue. Twice as many people today live with schizophrenia than with HIV/AIDS, yet many Americans know little about the disease.
