NAMI Board of Directors

Carlos A. Larrauri, MSN, APRN, PMNHP-BC, FNP-BC, is a member of the NAMI Board of Directors and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in Miami. He is a member of NAMI Miami-Dade County.

Carlos first learned about NAMI when seeking support after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. Within the support group setting, he found a space where he felt comfortable discussing the challenges of living with a serious mental illness. NAMI and its programs are at the heart of his recovery. Through his affiliation with NAMI, Carlos hopes to combine clinical practice, policy and research to reduce health inequities for people living with mental illness.

He previously worked as a lecturer at the University of Miami. He has also served as Co-Chair of the Steering Committee for Accelerated Medicines Partnership Schizophrenia. He has been recognized as a Zuckerman Fellow from the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School and received the Community Engagement Award from the University of Miami.

Carlos earned his M.S. in Nursing at The University of Miami and is pursuing a J.D./MPA at the University of Michigan Law School and Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

For the 2021–2022 Board term, he serves on the Public Policy Committee.
