Arlington, VA — The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) today released the following statement from CEO Daniel H. Gillison Jr. following the U.S. Senate Confirmation of Xavier Becerra as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“NAMI commends the Senate for confirming Xavier Becerra as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,” Gillison said. “Secretary Becerra has been a true leader on mental health and addiction issues, tirelessly defending the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and working to enforce federal and state mental health parity laws. We believe his leadership will ensure that HHS is able to deliver on its mission to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, while helping our nation heal from the COVID-19 pandemic.

NAMI stands ready to collaborate with the Biden-Harris Administration to continue addressing the mental health crisis in our country and helping build better lives for people with mental illness.”
