This engaging webinar covers how mental health and its treatment varies across cultures and communities, while providing insight into how psychiatry is viewed and accepted across different cultures. The main presentation will also highlight how people with mental illness and their families/caregivers can engage more effectively in treatment.

Dr. Maxie GordonDr. Maxie Gordon

Dr. Maxie Gordon is a board-certified psychiatrist at East Mississippi State Hospital and the VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. In addition, he runs an outpatient clinic at Hinds Behavioral Health Center, the largest urban behavioral health clinic in the state.

Dr. Gordon served as an assistant professor and the founding director of the joint medicine/psychiatry unit at the Brody School of Medicine. Dr. Gordon also served as the director of medical student education for 10 years at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He was recognized twice as teacher of the year.

Dr. Gordon currently serves as president of the Mississippi Psychiatric Association.
