Isabel Ohakamma (she/her) is a proud Nigerian-American mental health advocate from Houston, Texas. Isabel’s passion for mental health advocacy ignited in high school during the COVID-19 pandemic when she founded a campus club dedicated to addressing the mental and emotional needs of students from underrepresented communities while challenging cultural stigmas surrounding mental health. Her impactful work earned her recognition as a changemaker in her school district. For her contributions to her community, she was selected as one of twelve 2021 Bezos Scholars in the country.

Now a second-year student at the University of Virginia (UVA), Isabel double majors in Psychology and Youth & Social Innovation with a minor in Data Science. She continues championing mental health advocacy, using her lived experiences to uplift and empower others. Isabel’s advocacy journey includes serving on Mental Health America’s inaugural Youth Policy Accelerator Program, testifying at a congressional hearing on youth mental health at the United States Capitol, and working as a Peer Health Educator at UVA.

In her free time, Isabel enjoys spending time with her beloved pet rabbit, Jaxton, and discovering new movies and TV shows.
