NAMI membership dues cover membership at all three levels. No matter where you send your dues, they will be shared amongst the other offices.

As the nation’s largest mental health advocacy organization, your membership with NAMI adds power to our mission to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness. Membership dues help NAMI provide free programs and support groups, advocate at all levels of government for access to treatment and services, fight stigma through information and awareness and provide hope to hundreds of thousands of people and families affected by mental health conditions.

Joining is simple through NAMI’s website. You may also join by contacting your NAMI Affiliate. NAMI offers an open-door membership or reduced rate for those with financial need.

The benefits of full membership include membership in NAMI, your NAMI State Organization and Affiliate, our flagship magazine, the NAMI Advocate, discounts at the NAMI Store and on registration at NAMI’s National Convention, full access to all the information and features on the NAMI website and more.

The first step you should take is either sign into your NAMI.org or create a NAMI.org account.

  • To sign in, click “Sign In” link at the top of any page and enter your username and password.
  • To create an account, click “Join” at the top of any page. From there, enter your information and email address. As long as we already have your information on file, your new account will connect to your existing record in our database.
  • Once you are logged in and are on your home page, you will see your membership under the “Membership” section of your MyNAMI page with a blue “Renew” link. Click “Renew.”

If you have any problems renewing, please contact [email protected].

NAMI has three membership rates:

  • Household membership – $60 per year
  • Regular membership – $40 per year
  • Open Door membership – $5 per year.

Household memberships are intended to allow two or more individuals living at the same address to be counted as NAMI members, with the benefits of membership applying to each person listed as being part of the household. The Household membership will only receive one copy of the NAMI Advocate magazine, but all other member benefits are granted to each listed member.

  • The person who pays the Household membership will need to list the specific individuals in the household for them to be counted as members. Someone is not considered a member if they are not listed on the Household membership, or does not have a membership of their own.

Both Regular and Open Door memberships are for individuals and receive the same benefits and information. The only difference between these two rates is the price.

Open Door memberships are intended for any individuals for whom $40 per year is not a financially viable option. There are no eligibility requirements. A person just has to choose the Open Door rate to become an Open Door member.

All membership rates are available via www.nami.org/about-nami/join-nami.

You can become a member by joining online. You can also reach out to your NAMI Affiliate or NAMI State Organization to purchase a NAMI membership.

If you paid membership dues at your local NAMI Affiliate, you do not need to pay again. Your NAMI Affiliate will update your membership in our system. You can always contact them to make sure they received your payment if you do not see your membership within a few weeks.

If you are a member and you know your username and password, you can click the sign in text at top of the www.nami.org and make the changes easily on your own.

You may also contact Member Services through the Contact Us form.

Finally, you can contact the NAMI HelpLine at 1-800-950-6264 between 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., ET, Monday – Friday. HelpLine representatives will be able to forward your new contact information to the appropriate department.

A donation is a tax-deductible gift to NAMI. Donations sustain NAMI and provide the necessary operating funds so that we can educate, advocate and change the way America thinks about mental illness.

When you make a gift, it does not mean you are a member of NAMI. However, we have many people who choose to be both donors and members of our organization.

NAMI HelpLine is available M-F, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. ET. Call 800-950-6264,
text “helpline” to 62640, or chat online. In a crisis, call or text 988 (24/7).
