On June 29, 1,000 NAMI advocates went to Capitol Hill to speak up on issues important to people with mental illness and their families. They met in-person with over 20 U.S. Senators and over 70 Congressmembers and staffers.
They urged these representatives to oppose health reform that leaves fewer people with coverage for mental health care and support funding for mental health research, criminal justice initiatives and supportive housing for those with mental health conditions.
The event was part of the NAMI National Convention, which was held in Washington, D.C. from June 28 – July 1, 2017. Attendees included children and adults with mental illness, family members of individuals living with mental health conditions, health care professionals and more.

Our prep session helped our advocates feel confident and empowered to have successful meetings with Senators and Congressmembers. The inspiring event gave our deeply committed advocates the chance to raise their voice in unison for our mutual cause.
