NAMI, along with other prominent mental health and addiction organizations, launched Mental Health for US: a nonpartisan educational coalition aimed at elevating mental health issues on the 2020 campaign trail. The coalition is dedicated to uniting Americans to call for bipartisan support and systematic change through grassroots activation.

Mental Health for US calls for substantial increases in federal funding for research on mental health conditions, suicide prevention, more effective treatments and better diagnostic tools. There is a crisis, and we need specific policy proposals around these issues and how both presidential and congressional candidates would put them into action.

“Our goal for this coalition is to provide resources and empower our grassroots advocates with information to improve mental health literacy for both voters and candidates,” said Angela Kimball, Acting CEO of NAMI. “While some of our policymakers and leaders are speaking out about these issues, it’s going to take much more to save the countless lives lost every day to suicide and overdose. By joining our voices with the Mental Health for US coalition, we hope for a future where improving and eliminating inequalities in our mental health care system is a bipartisan priority.”
