Join us for the second session of the NAMI Ask the Expert, “You Are Not Alone” Book Series, as we navigate Family Communication with Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ken Duckworth and “You Are Not Alone” interviewees, George Kaufmann and Dante and Chastity Murry.

Listen as our guest experts share personal stories that explore the importance of family communication as it relates to their lived experiences of mental illness within their families. Gain insights as they answer personal questions from the audience.

This session will be recorded and posted to our website several days after the webinar. All registrants for this webinar will automatically receive a link by email to view the recorded session once it is available. A typed transcription of the audio will also be available online within one week of the webinar.

George Kaufmann became interested in mental health after his son Patrick’s 1994 diagnosis of schizophrenia. George served on the Board of The Mental Wellness Center from 2001 to 2014 and as an active member of NAMI Santa Barbara County, serving as President from 2013 through 2021. George is a certified teacher of NAMI Family-to-Family, a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor, and serves on the local NAMI Public Policy Committee advocating for improved mental health services at the local, state and national level. In all these venues, George relates his own family’s experience with mental illness and recovery to help mental health professionals, law enforcement and the community at large to better understand the impact of mental illness on those who live with it as well as their families.

Dante and Chastity Murry are a married couple from Kentucky who met through a mutual friend at a NAMI advocacy rally. They have both volunteered for NAMI for over 10 years and currently serve as facilitators of NAMI Family Support Groups and NAMI Connections groups. Dante and Chastity, who both live with mental health conditions, shared their experience as a married couple with a blended family for NAMI’s first book, “You Are Not Alone.” In their interview, they highlighted how much NAMI groups and trainings have helped them on their paths to recovery.
