Governor Almond and Cabinet Host “Living with Schizophrenia” Forum

Charles Feldman understands what it means to recover from a severe mental illness. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, a brain disease that affects about 2 million Americans, he used to experience his life as a series of dark days, too many to count. Today, as a presenter for NAMI-Rhode Island (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), he teaches others like himself how to manage mental illness.

A living testimony to the possibilities that can be achieved by individuals with mental illness, Charles presents Living with Schizophrenia to audiences throughout Providence. Living with Schizophrenia is an innovative and inspiring presentation describing what life is like living with schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses. The program has received wide acclaim by some of the country's leading medical professionals, mental health policymakers, advocates, families, and consumers. It emphasizes changing stereotypes and reducing the stigma associated with persons who have brain disorders.

Charles and other speakers from NAMI-Rhode Island will deliver a "Living with Schizophrenia and other Mental Illnesses" presentation to members of Governor Almond's cabinet, highlighting the importance of mental health services in Rhode Island.
